Botox and Fillers in Media PA

Cosmetic Services

Botox®(opens in a new tab) is an injectable neuromodulator, made up of a protein called botulinum toxin-A. These products work by inhibiting the activity of muscles that cause facial animation. Over time, habitual facial animations result in lines in the upper portion of your face such as frown lines, crow’s feet and horizontal forehead lines. The goal of treatment is to soften facial expression, not to freeze your face.

Neuromodulators can soften or erase:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Upper-lip vertical wrinkles and lines
  • Neck wrinkles
  • Chin dimples
  • Jaw (masseter) muscle contraction

Neuromodulator injection treatments for the majority of patients are safe, quick, require no recovery time, and have minimal side effects. Results become visible in about 72 hours, with maximum results achieved in 1-2 weeks. Muscle relaxation lasts for approximately 3-4 months after injection. Maximum results are achieved by maintaining repeated and timely neuromodulator treatments in combination with proper skincare.

Understanding Injectable Fillers

Loss of facial volume is part of the natural aging process. Injectable fillers work by replacing lost volume and stimulating collagen growth to achieve a natural, youthful appearance. There are a variety of hyaluronic acid fillers available at Dermatology Ltd. Dr. Nicholas Guido will perform a thorough assessment of your facial anatomy and decide which filler or combination of fillers is best for you.

Learn More About Botox®

Am I a candidate for Botox®?

Botox® is recommended for men and women who want to prevent or treat wrinkles between the eyes, across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes. If you have a history of adverse reactions to Botox® or other neuromodulators, please let our doctors know so that we can recommend alternative injectable products.

How is a Botox® treatment performed?

Botox® is pre-loaded in a sterile syringe and injected into the muscle by one of our board-certified dermatologists. We use the tiniest needles to ensure the most comfortable experience for our patients. Multiple injections are made into the appropriate muscles that are causing wrinkles. Most patients find the procedure tolerable, but we can numb the area prior to the injections if you are particularly sensitive to needles and injections. The entire procedure will take 15 to 30 minutes.

What is recovery like after a Botox® treatment?

You may experience mild redness, localized swelling or slight tenderness at the injection site after Botox® injections, but no downtime is expected.

How long do results from a Botox® treatment last?

The anti-aging benefits a Botox® injection treatment will last three to four months, but this does vary from patient to patient. Treatment to highly active muscles may wear off more quickly. Maximum results are achieved by maintaining repeated and timely Botox® injections in combination with proper skin care.

Am I a candidate for filler injections?

The primary consideration for treatment is the characteristics of your anti-aging needs. Dr. Nicholas Guido will perform a detailed analysis of your anatomy and determine if filler is the best treatment for you.

How are filler injections performed?

We apply a topical numbing agent 20-30 minutes before injections to ensure the most comfortable experience for our patients. Most fillers also contain a premixed local anesthetic, increasing comfort during injection. Fillers are pre-loaded in a sterile syringe and expertly injected by Dr. Nicholas Guido.

What is recovery like after filler injections?

You may or may not experience mild redness, tenderness or bruising after filler treatment. We recommend stopping any blood thinners not prescribed by a physician for 1-2 weeks before filler injections to prevent the risk of bruising. Examples of these are Aspirin, NSAIDS like Advil (Ibuprofen) or Aleve (Naproxen Sodium), Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ginkgo, Green Tea, Garlic, Ginseng, St John’s Wort, and alcoholic beverages.
